Learning For Life

Overview:

Maths at Key Stage 3 is designed to be functional for each child and is pitched at the level they are working at. Basic skills will be worked upon in all lessons with a functional element and links to real life throughout. Social skills and enjoyment of maths are both promoted through the use of games, investigations and partner/group work within lessons. 

Strands of Maths covered in Key Stage 3:

Number: 

  • Number and Place Value
  • Addition and Subtraction
  • Multiplication and Division
  • Fractions, Decimals and Percentages
  • Algebra

Measure:

  • Length
  • Weight
  • Volume
  • Time
  • Ratio and Proportion (when students are attaining at a suitable level)

Geometry:

  • Shape and properties
  • Position and Direction
  • Area and Perimeter

Statistics:

  • Handling Data (when students are attaining at a suitable level)

Maths is taught on a 6 week cycle with each half term building on the skills gained previously.

Week 6 - Statistics

Class teachers may decide to run two weeks of number together on occasion to consolidate learning.

Maths should be Fun! Lessons will be exciting and engaging. We will make links to every day life and we will be mindful of the Market Field focus areas - Learning to Be, Learning to Know, Learning to Do and Learning to Live Together.
