Learning For Life
We believe that sport and physical activity is a fundamental part of the curriculum and should be accessible and enjoyed by all of our pupils. The main aims of PE are that all pupils take part, show a positive attitude at all times, and have fun! PE is compulsory, the only exclusions being on the written advice of a qualified medical practitioner.
Individual and team sports are taught within the PE curriculum, with several extracurricular activities supporting this. Team games (such as football, rugby, netball, basketball, hockey, volleyball, rounders and cricket) feature heavily and the school takes part in inter-school sports competitions including swimming galas, football, cricket and athletics. We participate regularly in MESSA events.
Pupils also have the opportunity to develop individual skills in gymnastics, dance and fitness. Our learners are encouraged to perform to the best of their ability and have regular opportunities to showcase their talents; often using ICT to self and peer assess technique. Pupils also go swimming throughout the year.
Across the school, we are pioneering the ‘Sky Sports Living For Sport’ programme and our learners are also involved in Sports Leadership. In Key Stage 4, they have the opportunity to further develop their learning by choosing OCN Sport Studies and Healthy Living as an option.
