Olive
Welcome to Olive Class!
Olive Class is a mixed class for pupils in Years 3-6. In Olive Class, we teach a curriculum that is differentiated according to the development of each pupil. We therefore explore areas of the National Curriculum at an appropriate pace and level for the pupils in our class. Academically, we primarily focus on the subjects of: Reading/Phonics, English, Math and PSHE. Although less frequently, we also explore subjects such as Art, Science and Cooking through exploration, sensory activities and topics. We frequently spend time out in the community whilst taking part in outdoor learning activities including Swimming and Horse Riding. Throughout each day, we promote a learning environment where we support and encourage our pupils to develop self-regulation, social-communication and life-skills.
Our learning is broken down into short, manageable tasks and is delivered mostly through small group work or one-to-one support, with some exposure to whole-class activities. The aim of this is to develop pupils’ focus and attention to an adult-led agenda, for increasing periods of time. We use visuals to support routines and structure and, where possible, promote practical based learning. Pupils have free access to a variety of sensory tools throughout the day and have regular sensory breaks to support self-regulation.
