Beech
Beech class includes children from year three to year six. The curriculum in Beech is bespoke to the needs of the children and is not limited to standard academic subjects. Children are set targets, which are specific to them, and they work on these on a one to one basis with an adult throughout the week. Children are also helped to generalise their skills through group work, whole class work and trips out.
In Beech, we prioritise development of communication skills, life-skills and social skills as these are most important to our children. We will read daily as a group and incorporate opportunities for sensory activities to help our children stay calm and focused. We use a range of different strategies and communication aids as suitable to the individual child. Our days tend to be very structured and routine orientated. We use a range of visual strategies to help our children to predict what might happen next thus helping them to feel secure.
